CHANGE IS A CONSTANT FACTOR ON PLANET EARTH.

...Finally the end of January 2014 is here...
It has been a long holiday for me and yes I enjoyed every Second, Minute, Hour and Day of my Christmas and New Year Holiday.
Before I say Happy New Year and Update you on my New Year resolutions for 2014, join me as I do a quick recap of the entertainment journey in Naija so far.
N/B: Just my thoughts, remember its the world of DW.
ENJOY!

It’s been four years now since I started putting my thoughts into words through my column in ATQ MAGAZINE which I call ‘MY FACEBOOK’.
In these four years ATQ has transformed from publishing offline to online giving birth to atqnews.com, like I wrote change is constant.

NOW! Going through my very first column from January 2009 till date, I realized change has affected everyone I wrote about, YES!

Let us start with the movie industry in Nigeria (NOLLYWOOD).

Van Vicker
In 2009 VAN VICKER a Ghanaian Actor was the delight of movie marketers in Nigeria as he featured in ‘6 out of every 10 movies’ released by the Alaba Marketers and slowly he took over the lover boy title from RAMSEY NOAH.
Ramsey Noah

But remember change is constant as MAJID MICHEAL
another Ghanaian actor took over from Van Vicker in a blink; Majid Micheal rocked the Nollywood commercial scene for a while as he has got a cute face and is a fantastic actor.

If you ask me I’d say I see a vacuum, who will be the next VAN VICKER or MAJID MICHEAL???

Thanks to cinema Ramsey Nouah

and Majid Micheal still show their fans what they know how to do best.

For the Nollywood Females I think we all remember when it was a GENEVIEVE NNAJI’S affair all the way for the Alaba Marketers, but now I guess it is a MERCY JOHNSON’S

affair, like I wrote change is constant.

I also remember 2009 as the year FUNKE AKINDELE who was known as the young girl from I NEED TO KNOW teenage series was now known as the BIGZ GIRLS(big girl) JENIFA, due to the commercial success of the movie JENIFA.

MUSIC INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA
As at January 2009, I was not a fan of RAP, but a young man from JOS city in Nigeria known as M.I
 (Jude Abaga) changed that.
Mr Incredible as I like to call him, came and took naija RAP to the next level, while M.I was representing with his great rap lyrics, the music industry was slowly undergoing change as the scanty lyrics trend was quickly becoming the order of the day, since all one needed to do was sing a song with a danceable beat and the lyrics would not be judged instead it would hit the charts.

Reigning party Jams at that time were 4kasibe by DJzeez, Shayo by Bigiano,
Yori Yori by
Bracket,  Hotter than Fire by Sheyman
etc. Even though the music industry saw new artistes making hits, it also saw the likes of DBANJ & PSQUARE
 stepping up their game.

Dbanj was untouchable by ‘MR CHANGE’ with songs like Igwe and fall in Love, while Psquare ran ahead ‘MR CHANGE’ with songs like Wahala Dey, Beautiful Onyinye, Chop my money, Alingo and now Personally.

‘MR CHANGE’ did not give up on the music industry as young stars like

Mocheda, Skales, Davido, whizkid etc gave their older contemporaries run for their money, now the question is how many of these young stars will survive ‘MR CHANGE’, in 2014?

TALK SHOWS IN NIGERIA
In 2010, FUNMI IYANDA,One of naija's most popular and respected TV personalities who got my attention with NEW DAWN. (NEW DAWN was a successful talk show on the Nigerian Television Authority,NTA), was visited by ‘MR CHANGE’ and she decided to rest NEW DAWN and start a new talk show called TALK WITH FUNMI, at that time talk shows like MOMENTS WITH MO, and INSIDE OUT WITH AGATHAwere the popular talk shows but in no time comedian TEJU BABY FACE

was out with his own talk show, ‘THE TEJU BABY FACE SHOW’, which is very interesting.

But Hey! Mo Abudu of Moments with MO stepped up her game with 'MR CHANGE', as she now owns a channel on DSTV called Ebony Life TV. Way to go MO, Congrats.

BLOGGING IN NIGERIA
I remember following BELLA NAIJA and LINDA IKEJI’S BLOGS in 2009, at the time blogging was strange to most of my friends, considering the fact that whenever I talked about blogging they gave me this what is she saying’ look, lol...but to my greatest surprise, I hooke up with the world via my internet and I realize every Dick, Tom and Harry now has a blog.... and guess what, I hear they blog, expecting to make a living from blogging. There is nothing wrong with such dream, but if you must expect income from blogging make it a business with structures and stop this CUT and PASTE laziness. The likes of BELLA NAIJA and LINDA IKEJI
Linda Ikeji

have made a business out of blogging, you can ask them to show you the ropes.
For me blogging is strictly for fun, just for relaxation, but if you give me money I go collect oh! Lol!.

COMEDY IN NIGERIA
As at 2009 AYO MAKUN

popularly known as AY was the fastest rising comedian in Nigeria. AY kept the Audience roaring in laughter with his theatrics and refreshing jokes at the 2009 Ovation Red Carol organized by DELE MOMODU (Publisher of Ovation International Magazine).
AY took the business of comedy to another level, as he gave his art structure, serving ‘MR CHANGE’ AY LIVE & AY SHOW.

In 2010 JULIUS AGWU started a monthly show called Comedy Train, I guess that was a gift to ‘MR CHANGE’, since the monthly comedy show by BUNMI DAVIES got comedians thinking, but I think the yearly comedy show works better, because if all Nigerian comedians start to produce their own monthly comedy show, I will have to get special powers like ‘SUPER MAN OR FLASH’ to attend all the comedy shows at the same time.
Nevertheless comedy in Nigeria is now a lucrative business, and thanks to ‘MR CHANGE’ upcoming comedians are giving a chance to start their journey into the world of comedy.
N/B:- I Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, the book by Julius Agwu (JOKES APART, how did I get here). Nice Concept, fantastic Title...... KUDOS J.A.

REALITY SHOWS IN NIGERIA
In 2009 ‘KOKO MASTER’ decided to serve MR CHANGE something Nice, he rolled out a reality TV show called KOKO MANSION .
We are in 2014 and Koko Mansion reality TV show was not repeated after the maiden edition in 2009.
I guess the Koko Master DBANJ
decided to hold on to his first love MUSIC.

Since 2009 and now we have had Reality shows like MTN PROJECT FAME, GLO NAIJA SINGS, NIGERIAN IDOL, NAIJA GOT TALENT etc but my favourite remains the GULDER ULTIMATE SEARCH, I still remember the 2010 version (CELEBRITY SHOW DOWN)
 like yesterday.

Celebrity showdown gave me all round entertainment as PRINCESS THE COMEDIAN made the reality show a situation comedy, while BOB MANUEL UDOKWU made it an IQ movie as he always had an answer to every intellectual task.
The love triangle between EMEKA IKE, MUMA GEE and ABASS almost turned the search into a telenovela, thank God the knight in shining armour DARE ART ALADE was not swept off his feet by the GULDER CINDERELLA(CHIOMA CHUKWUKA APOTHA) considering all the Cinderella’s I know are quiet.
In my perspective WEIRD MC and DADDY SHOWKEY had a lot in common, except the huge difference in their speech pattern.
I haven’t mentioned FUNKE AKINDELE aka JENIFA as she was the first celebrity to leave the search, her eviction came to me as a shock as I felt ultimate search celebrity showdown would have been more interesting if she stayed longer.
Hmmm! They all came, saw and EMEKA IKE CONQUERED as he emerged winner of the GULDER ULTIMATE SEARCH IN 2010.

Now that we know that change is constant, the big question is what happens when MR. CHANGE visits us at home???
   a) If we have no plan for MR. CHANGE, we will be swallowed by MR. CHANGE and forgotten forever.
b)      If we have a plan or plans for Mr. Change, Mr. Change will take us to the next level.

We all must start planning ahead...

And My NEW YEAR RESOLUTION, for 2014 is to upgrade every aspect of my life and welcome 'MR CHANGE' when necessary.
HAPPY NEW YEAR...
